Ron,

Great to hear from you. I sure appreciate you reading the blog. I hope you've found it interesting at least occasionally. I visited your website briefly, and it's looking great. I hope things continue to workout. I'll be stateside for a bit around the holidays, and could be in Chapel Hill for a bit. If so, I'll let you know and we can get together.

Best,
JT

JT,

Sounds like things are going well for you. I try to check in on your blog from time to time, but it's been awhile. It was fun learning about your new opportunity.

Glad to see you are still excited about startup businesses. I'm still working hard on mine. GiftOasis.com is coming along well. Maybe not as quickly as I'd like, but I'm really happy with how it's shaping up. And hopefully if things go well we can use it to help lots of small businesses here in North Carolina.

If you're ever back in town for a visit, let me know. It'd be fun to catch up. I'd love to hear all about your time in Ethiopia.

That sounds like an awesome project - would love to hear more about it. Unfortunately, blogspot is blocked here in Ethiopia. I'll email you so you can follow-up via email if you wish. All the best,

My husband is heading up a project to build a 300-cow dairy in Kokosa, Ethiopia. They are just beginning, but are planning to use the methane gas, possibly as a power source. I thought you might enjoy keeping up on the project at his blog.

What is written about MIT is very interesting.
yeah
MIT is center of excellence and much more is going to be done.
Hope fully in the coming 2020 there will be a bunch of new projects that are going to solve a lot of brainstorming problems in the whole over the world.

To your surprise students of MIT enjoy doing huge projects both in there mini and final year project this quality is the result of the habit of self teaching and starvation; this starvation is not actually about food rather it is about knowledge.
we all MITIAN's enjoy doing good projects for the best of ETHIOPIA and we will keep THE LEGEND ARAY's vision forever,
until our final goal is reached, which is ETHIOPIA >=CHINA IN TECHNOLOGY !!!!!!!!
PLEAS KEEP ON POSTING ABOUT MIT THERE IS ALOT TO BE SAID

Matt,

Good to hear from you buddy. In this specific community, the people sustain themselves by weaving, working as cleaners, making and selling woven baskets, making and selling birrberry (a local spice - I'm sure that spelling is incorrect), sewing, harvesting wood off the forest floor and selling as fuel for cooking stoves and other such activities. Many of these people earn just barely enough to survive (a guess would be 300 - 400 ETB/ month - roughly $30-40 USD).

I think there are opportunities to educate on and implement such practices as vegetable cultivation through drip irrigation systems - but again, I feel at this time it's enough to focus on providing the best care and education possible to the kids at the school.

I hope all is well, and thanks for the support.

Best,
JT

Hey JT,

Interesting to read ......I think about problems like this all the time. How do the people sustain themselves? Are they strictly agrarian, or is there some kind of commerce? I sympathize with you when you say you'd like to think up some grand economic idea of sustainability. I wish I could brainstorm and help you out. Tell me a little about the economic situation the people face.

you're doing great work!!!
